Shorter
Days and Colder Nights.
October’s a scary time of year, what with Howl-o-ween and black cats (that should be kept
indoors on the bewitching night, so no harm
will come to them!). Yet along with all that
there’s still plenty to do while the days shorten
and the nights cool.
It’s a DAWG’s Day, October 7, benefits
Douglas County’s animals, and Applause for
Paws, October 13, raises funds for Shakespeare
Animal Fund, the Harvest Festival, October
26, raises winter funding for the wild friends
of the Animal Ark, and the Nevada Humane
Society’s Vet in a Box, October 27 to 31, will
bring awareness to animal adoptions, shelter
services, and provide a forum for donations.
November brings Thanksgiving, a.k.a. Turkey
Day (oh my!) and even more great stuff to see and
do. The annual benefit, An Affur to Remember,
November 17, presented by the Society for the
Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) will
be tons of fun and raise their needed funds, and
winding up the month, the Nevada Humane
Society’s Home for the Holidays Adoptathon,
December 2, will be another opportunity to
kick up your heels and benefit animals.
Activities slow in our area during the cold
months, so get out there and have some fun! If
your organization has something planned for
the winter months, be sure to let us know so we
can let our region’s pet people know about it!
Meantime, watch out for accidental spills and
leaks when you check your antifreeze for the
winter; cats and dogs like to lick up antifreeze
and it can cause severe sickness – even death!
And, lastly – a BIG thank you to all
our readers who have been sending all the great pictures and stories! Keep them
coming – and let us know what you’d like to see in!
